Did you have The Avett Brothers working with Faith No More’s Mike Patton on your rock music bingo card? It wasn’t on ours, either, but if you’re thinking this collaboration sounds as ill-fated as Lou Reed and Metallica’s album Lulu, we can assure you it’s not. It’s an adventurous undertaking that takes folk to uncharted territory. And when you take into consideration that The Avett Brothers and Patton are both great live performers, it makes their Valley show hard to ignore. 7:30 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. The New Pornographers
Ten albums in, the Canadian indie supergroup led by A.C. Newman is still pushing itself to new heights and exploring bold new emotional territory. The single “Votive,” which appears on its latest album The Former Site Of, kicks off with a moody, ethereal vibe. When Newman and singer Kathryn Calder repeat the refrain, “I didn’t see you there,” like a mantra, it shifts from meditative to anthemic. It’s quite a neat trick. 7:30 p.m. $53.04. Who Want the Smoke

Electric Six
If you’ve somehow gone the last three decades without hearing this genre-defying band from the Motor City, you can get a good idea of what it’s about from listening to its latest single, a cover of Harry Nilsson’s classic “One.” It ironically combines elements of metal and punk, yet it still sounds more sincere than Three Dog Night’s version. The Black Queen
You don’t hear the term “electronic supergroup” thrown around much… or ever. Yet that term is an apt descriptor for this Los Angeles-based group, featuring members of Nine Inch Nails and The Dillinger Escape Plan.
