Cactus League Spring Training: Getting the Most Out of It
Fifteen MLB teams train in the Valley every February and March. Here's how to approach the experience.
The Cactus League, with fifteen Major League Baseball teams training across the Phoenix metropolitan area from mid-February through late March, is the most accessible professional baseball experience in the United States. Tickets are affordable, stadiums are intimate, players are accessible, and February Arizona weather creates conditions unavailable during the regular season.
The general approach: pick two or three stadiums you want to experience, choose games that pit teams you're interested in watching, and plan around the weather window.
Camelback Ranch (White Sox and Dodgers) and Goodyear Ballpark (Reds and Indians) are the best-designed training facilities from a fan experience standpoint. The berm seating areas allow for relaxed viewing at prices lower than reserved seats.
Player access during spring training is genuinely different from the regular season. Players often sign autographs and interact with fans before games in ways that security protocols make impossible during the season.
For the best value: Monday through Thursday games are significantly less attended than weekends. The baseball is identical. The parking and atmosphere are substantially better.
Restaurant reservations are essential during peak Cactus League weekends.
