5 Concerts to Check Out This Week (July 6-12)

Every week, we present a curated list of live music in a wide range of genres around the Valley. This week: a rapper who keeps it in the family. 

July 7
Lana Del Rabies 

With a stage name that mocks outspoken indie songstress Lana Del Rey, plus a setlist with songs we can’t repeat in a family publication, experimental musician Sam An certainly knows how to get your attention. But there’s more to her than meets the ear. For example, LDR’s 2023 song “Apocalypse Fatigue” sports a dark, droning industrial sound that has some therapeutic moments if you listen closely. Now the noise artist is returning home to Phoenix, bringing the bands Trace Amount and Insula Iscariot with her. 7:30 p.m. $20-$22 plus fees. Valley Bar, 130 N. WAVVES 

This San Diego-based psych-punk band, known for its breakthrough album King of the Beach, is more than just a bunch of stoned slackers playing music. For example, frontman Nathan Williams is also a business owner. In fact, he launched apparel supplier Wavvy Supply Co. as a response to the misconceptions people had about him and the band. You can find the company’s counterculture-aligned products at dispensaries throughout California, with plans to expand soon. 7 p.m. $20-$25 plus fees. Crescent Ballroom, 308 N.  July 8
T.I. 

The Atlanta-based actor and rapper recently announced that his latest album, Kill the King, will also be his last. Kurt Vile and the Violators 

The indie singer-songwriter, known for the song “Pretty Pimpin,” is hitting the road in support of his album, titled Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me. Sometimes compared to Bruce Springsteen, he brings an infectious everyman vibe to the stage. 8 p.m. Check website for ticket prices. The Van Buren, 401 W.  July 11
Las Calakas 

The local cumbia group always brings the party wherever it plays. But this performance will literally be a party, as the band will be celebrating guitarist Vic Tellez’s birthday.
