5 Concerts to Check Out This Week (July 20-26)

July 22
Suki Waterhouse 

The indie artist and occasional actress recently revealed that her latest song, titled “Weirdo,” was inspired by her fiancé, actor Robert Pattinson. Darius Rucker 

The Hootie and the Blowfish frontman, who has carved out quite a successful solo career as a country artist, says it isn’t summer unless he’s playing music outdoors. Thankfully, the Valley is an exception, with the “Wagon Wheel” star wisely settling for a spacious 5,000 indoor venue for his local engagement. The Stray Cats 

The legendary ‘80s rockabilly band behind “Rock This Town” bowed out of a 21-city U.S. tour last fall when frontman Brian Seltzer was struck by several health issues, including a previously undiagnosed autoimmune disease that caused nerve damage to his hands. Now that Seltzer is feeling better, the Cats are coming to the Valley to strut their stuff on the Celebrity Theatre’s rotating stage. 7:30 p.m. $72.16-$141.79. Com Truise 

Besides the clever celebrity sobriquet, Com Truise is best known for his epic synth-heavy albums, which sound like they came straight out of a classic ‘80s cyberpunk film. But when the Los-Angeles-based artist arrives in downtown Tempe, get ready to move. He’ll be getting on the decks for a DJ set on Sunbar’s patio. 9 p.m. $10-$20 plus fees. Sunbar, 24 W. Crescent Ballroom 2nd Annual Summer Formal 

The musical event of the summer is here, so you better look the part. Bright, lightweight suits and long, dazzling gowns are the perfect attire for this counter-culture social affair, which will feature DJ Pootiecat behind the decks.
